Kierson are specialists in the restoration of timber windows and all timber architectural features including doors, columns, conservatories and orangeries. They are primarily an architectural conservation company with a strong attention to detail. Having worked with Kierson before we knew that their standards were exceptionally high and second best would not do. This is why Flaps Envelopes were chosen for the project.

The Brief

The brief was to create a C4 sized envelope with a wood effect. The envelope would be used to contain marketing materials and used as handouts at trade shows. Over 1000 needed to be made, all by hand.

The Challenge

The main challenge was to produce a realistic photo image of a piece of wood that was high quality and showed the wood grain to an attractive effect. The alignment of the grain in the hand-making process would also need to be dealt with carefully to ensure absolute precision.

The Solution

A series of professional photographs were taken of a selected piece of wood. After a process of elimination, the image that best depicted the colour and grain of the wood was chosen and blown up to C4 size to accommodate the envelope. Text was then added to the envelope and then approximately 2,000 to 3,000 were handmade ensuring precise alignment of the wood grain to the folds.

The result was a unique envelope that immediately reflected the industry that Kierson are in. The eye-catching quality of the envelope has helped Kierson’s marketing materials stand out at trade shows and they were exceptionally pleased with the finish.
